Design follows Content

Fidel Peugeot’s thoughts on design were published in 2011 in the WALKING CHAIR publication YOU DO DESIGN YOU — WE DO DESIGN YOU.

Our world is fat and full — things are getting tighter here. The managing of ever-scarcer resources represents one of the greatest challenges mankind has had to face since time immemorial! New inventions, strategies and solutions are needed in all spheres of life — private, public and commercial.
Design promotes rethinking.

“You Do Design You — We Do Design You” shows an overview of the works and worlds of ideas that we have developed and realised with our Walking-Chair Design Studio. It shows our Walking-Chair products, which we have been selling via our product platform Walking-Things since 2005. The book also features the exhibitions we have hosted since 2006 at the Walking-Chair Gallery, where we present design positions for the future by other designers.
We love design: our own and others.

We both landed in Vienna in 1992, although we did not meet until 2000. Following our first exhibition together, in London in 2002, we founded the studio in Vienna in 2003. Since then we have been working as idea-finders in a broad spectrum of design categories: from product development via architecture to graphic design, typography and word-creation.
Good design is multifaceted.

We are convinced that interesting design solutions always emerge from personal needs and that content represents the basis of every design development. Design no longer follows only form and function. Our times demand a total reorientation as well as radical repositioning. We coined the phrase: “Design Follows Content”.
Good design is moving.

Since the beginning of our collaboration we have been showing our works in exhibitions and lectures, and presenting them for discussion.
Good design needs the public.

You will find a selection of songs to sing along with at the end of this book. “We Make Things And Songs”. Sometimes we describe our products and projects with music. We love melodies, we love poetry and magic.
Good design creates atmosphere.
